ISS. III. CONSEJOS A UN HACENDADO VIZCAINO
(Some advice to a landowner from Biskay)
"Memoirs for the good management of the Basque rural
house. 1823-1832" is a posthumous work of Cayetano Joaquin
de Oxangoiti, illustrious landowner, born in the village of
Lekeitio. It is a wonderful manuscript from the first half
of the 19th century, which had been unplublished up to this
date, in spite of its great interest. The manuscript has,
among other things, an interesting plan for the promotion
of the agricultural sector in the Basque Country of that time.
It also includes the most established types of social relations
of its time, both in the public and also in the private sphere,
from marital strategies to delicious recipes. It is therefore
a first hand living testimony of the societies in Biscay,
halfway between the ancient regime and contemporary times.
The beautiful illustrations that acompany the text alone are
a work of ethnographic reseach. The literary edition has been
completed by the historians Javier Enriquez and Enriqueta
Sesmero Cutanda.
This first edition is composed of 250 copies numbered and
printed with great care in the choice of paper and printing.
